Il trench è un tipo di impermeabile con cintura che imita quello dell'esercito inglese. Il suo nome viene dall'inglese "trench coat" ossia "cappotto da trincea". Le sue caratteristiche sono: le spalline, l'allacciatura a doppiopetto, il sottogola, la cintura, la falda triangolare sovrapposta all’allacciatura per miglior chiusura. È realizzato in tessuto gabardine tradizionalmente color kaki, oggi in molte sfumature e in colori non più legati all'uso militare. È un impermeabile che protegge dalle intemperie ma non dal freddo, perciò va indossato sopra la giacca (o il blazer) o sopra il gilet imbottito.
